What I Offer
My approach to therapy is eclectic, having been impacted and influenced by a variety of interventions, models and schools of thought, including interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, internal family systems, narrative therapy (story-based work), experiential methods, EMDR and brainspotting. But ultimately, the counseling experience is going to be unique and dependent on you—your personality, your needs, your goals, and your hopes and desires.
Another way I might explain my approach is this: I believe we are, at our core, relational beings—that we are wounded in relationship and also healed in relationship. I believe in the value of the relationship between the therapist and the client and how transformative it can be to have a safe space to explore the stories we have lived (and are living) and the stories we tell ourselves about those experiences.
Therapy provides an opportunity to help us better understand ourselves and how we relate to the world around us. It can help us identify why we are the way we are (why we think, feel, and act as we do), why we find ourselves stuck or repeating the same mistakes over and over again. It can help us understand the dynamics in our relationships and develop healthier ways of relating. Therapy can also help us recognize and honor our strengths, learn new strategies for coping with challenges, and become more authentic and integrated.

I believe good therapy asks us to look at our relationship with ourselves, our relationship with others and our relationship with God, and that a flourishing life requires us to tend to all of those relationships. That being said, I will respect each person's beliefs and allow you to decide if and how you would like faith to be integrated into counseling.
